By LISA S. ROSEMANAssociated PressAssociated PressBANGOR, Maine (AP) — Dairy products are commonly used in duct tape.
They contain milk proteins and can also contain mucus.
The Maine Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says it found milk products in a bag in a factory at one of the nation’s largest dairy producers, but it didn’t say how or where the milk came from.
The agency says it was investigating whether a factory was using its facilities for animal feed, but there was no indication the milk was human.
State inspectors visited the factory Thursday.
The department says it didnt find any human waste or other hazardous materials.
Maine has about 7.5 million cows and 2.4 million calves, but the vast majority are confined to smaller facilities.
The dairy industry in Maine has seen a steep drop in production in recent years, and many cows have died, especially in the past few years.
The decline has been blamed on a lack of disease-free cattle.
The U.S. Department of Labor says that figure is likely to be much higher.
